Radio-Silence on C++ Builder/64 ?

Foreign correspondent from Belgium
While there is much chatter on Delphi/64 bits, there is curious and silence on the step-child of Delphi: C++ Builder/64.

Your correspondent attended a local C++ meeting and met some developers (who shall be anonymous) who were excited about Delphi/64-bits but when asked about C++ Builder/64, there was almost nothing about it. It is quite strange, since there is a Pascal Magazine published north of Belgium (Netherlands) with almost 60+ pages of FreePascal with a dose of Delphi and an occasional rant about Delphi**.

** read the magazine to see it. The magazine is copyrighted, please see the last 2 months articles.

CB Love neededC++ Builder for the past decade, was one version behind Delphi: BCB5 implemented Delphi 4, CB6 implemented Delphi 5, BCB2005 implemented Delphi 7, BCB2006 formally merged both Delphi and C++ builder together.

C++ Builder/64 ???
CB-XE represents the best version of C++ Builder yet, but some C++ Builder developers are worried. They fear that without any 64-bit C++ compiler, they fear the worst -- several years have passed and although many assurances given, there is no information about C++ Builder/64. All information currently points towards 64-bit Delphi, but other than the roadmap, nothing much about C++ Builder.

There are no C++ Builder/64 tips, no C++ Builder/64 assurances other than the unpleasant upcoming SA payment.

Speaking or asking about C++ Builder/64 would be heresy: it seems you are not permitted to ask, know or tell about C++ Builder/64 or anything about it, other than what is available on the Roadmap.

Your correspondent then told one poor C++ developer, please don't feel cry, mad or angry. It is not for mere mortals to know about C++ Builder/64. In the mean time, there is Visual C++/64 to comfort you. If it means you have to rewrite all your codes again, think about it. Don't get angry. You can wait a few more years or make the move to QT64/MFC64 or WxWidget today.

It's such a pitty that C++ Builder has always been the poor relation to Delphi. It doesn't look like this is going to change either.

I started programming for Windows in the mid-1990s with Delphi, but moved to C++ Builder because I wanted to use a more "standard language". Delphi is great, but its main use is for shareware apps. There are so few jobs in Delphi.

After years of being stuck at BCB5/6, with no Unicode support and no meaningful roadmap, things looked like they were at a dead end for me and I ditched Borland/BCB altogether. I tried WxWidgets, but settled on QT instead. Infact, Visual Studio 2010 Express, which is free and gives 64 bit code with the SDK, can be used with QT.

While I'm interested to see what becomes of BCB, I am not going to be enticed back to using with a 32-bit only compiler offering. What are they thinking?
