Help wanted: many correct examples needed
Your correspondent was smiling at Delphi developers who say they don't need any examples or demonstration codes.
Is nobody's going to help you?
The biggest problem with Delphi is the lack of working codes. That means demonstration applications that work, best practices in code form, ways how to make a stellar application. In C# and VB.NET, your correspondent sees plenty of examples on MSDN, plenty of readable tutorials (e.g., CSharpStation, CodeProject) and plenty of correct working solutions.
With Delphi, there is the Torry Swiss Center - which have plenty of outdated code snipplets, probably not updated since 1995. The owners of Torry's, Delphi3000 must have made thousands in Advertising money while the contributors were given nothing. You talk about the "Delphi Spirit" - helping each other out, trying to be a better Delphi developer, but that was spoiled by the vendors who got very, very greedy and SA-Damned by Borland. The non-moderation of the newsgroups meant any dispute about money turned very ugly.
Mr. Jeff Atwood said it nicely: Nobody is going to help you. Unless you are rich (the 15%) and can afford a ton of libraries or poor (the 85%) and download every Delphi library there is on File-Sharing, nobody is going to give correct examples or correct codes for free any longer.
Someone tried to make a nice site called SoftwarePr, a troll started to feed on the author of it, telling Mr. Slobodan Dmitrovic that his site was not needed, that others could post on Experts-Exchange and get ready-made components.
It's a big wastage of time posting on Experts-Exchange, Stack-Overflow and other sites when the basics - There should be more correct documentation, ready-to-use examples, ready-made working demonstrations. But of course - this is Delphi and C++ Builder, where two boxes of Delphi Professional can pay for one person's whole wages and nobody seems to come forward to make any decent documentation, examples and demos unless you tip them (or give them some money).
Maybe 95% of all self-help newsgroup posts for Delphi and C++ Builder are bullshit and the only help you can get is to buy a copy of Visual Studio, install it along with huge help files and see the hundreds of examples Visual Studio has to get the Win32 API documentation.
Let's not mention about Apache (Java) projects which are totally open-source and with very complete documentation. Same for PHP. Hundreds of correct scripts that work (e.g., the favorite VBulletin or PHPForums).
We could all listen to the newsgroup trolls: Help not needed, No better examples needed, no working demos needed. Torry's, DelphiPages and Component-vendors are laughing all the way to the bank.
