HR Dept: 21 Developers working on Delphi?

Correspondent from New York

danny_thorpe: Embarcadero laid off 7 ppl in Scotts Valley yesterday, approx 1/3 of #Delphi team. RTL, VCL, IDE devs. No official stmt. #layoffs

A year ago, Mr. Nick Hodges put on his resume he manages a team of 14 people (excluding himself). Later after DelphiHaters' blog published this fact, that line on his resume was removed. Since 1/3 of the Delphi team was laid off, that would imply 22 people working on Delphi. So the truth is not far off.

If you believe that 22 people comprises of the Delphi team, they should have taken the opposite step - fire the former Borland Management and keep the developers. One wonders why Delphi is sooo expensive given there is only 22 developers? If each developer was earning four boxes of Delphi (i.e., US$10,000 a month) they would have a pile of cash to pay for everything else.

Maybe Delphi is not selling well, "the more than 2 million developers" is but a fantasy number cooked-up by the marketing department to cheer Delphi developers and inspire confidence. The recent round of layoffs prove otherwise.

For the record, I didn't manage the whole R&D team -- there were two R&D Managers.

And a close reading of my resume reveals that you influenced me not! It always has, and still does, say that I managed 13 of the guys on the team.

Also, there are more people on the team than just R&D people. There is the QA people, the doc people, the localization people, and the integration people.

In other words, your numbers are totally off and your speculation is spectacularly wrong.

Thank you Nick - That's interesting. I think now most of the people here can gain a better understanding.

H. Nicholson - Do you think it is relevant if someone is nice or I think polite is maybe the better word?

Do you feed the cute puppies only and not the shaggy mongrel barking loud and coughs because it grew up on the street all alone ... and the only fun it had was to play with the electronic scrap on it's playground the dump ... maybe this one day he entered a shard of glass ...

Anyway in the good old time when the head of the hard disk got glued to the surface a good way was to kick start the machine with a jump from 2 meter distance ...
