Fair enough. Just so you know, I am not trying to get you on the podcast to debate you or prove you wrong. I think you raise some really good points, and the Delphi community can learn from your point of view.
So if in the future anyone in your group changes their mind feel free to drop me a line.
Who listens to your Podcast at Embarcadero, who advocates change at Embarcadero?
The management there is stuck on old-world principles:
- Fax for re-ordering Delphi. What? Never heard of PDF digital signatures or Rights Managed PDFs?
- Delphi filled with so many half-functional third-party components its joke.
- Delphi Jobs. We posted employer's view-points and there were ignored or debunked. But are Delphi developers getting jobs?
- Moderation on the Delphi forums. Do you risk your reputation to go against the crowd? Look at Sybase or Real Basic community or the Power Basic community to see civility.
Suppose you have employees that got trolled. The next day, I would be sure as the business owners, you would uninstall Delphi and install Flex or Microsoft Visual Studio and get proper quality support.
- Third-party component vendors are now subscriptions. Those that does not embrace this, simply wilt and die-off due to lack of funds. Is there anything done to prevent piracy?
- Cut the head off. Is it right to lay-off people who want more money or rights while working? Is it right to use very old computers for development work? Don't ask us; ask those at Embaracdero.
- Solutions, but at expensive cost. What is the price point and cost advantage ratio of Delphi?
C++ and C# now have RAD ability. Other than the Silverlight and WPF snafus, you look for Delphi jobs... there are more bubba Delphi jobs for mechanics and welders in Delphi Corporation instead.
Change for the better? We still have the old people at Borland becoming VPs and CEOs (Mr. Micahel Rezlog is now CEO at DBase), bringing their old-school business policies to new-world Internet.
Today one of the members wishes to use TDD, DDD, AOP, MVC3, Business framework, ORM in Delphi. What can you suggest that is affordable since C# and PHP have similar implementations that are cost-effective or free.
You may wish to send your agenda or list of questions. Our group may review them and post answers for them.
How is your income tax returns to Embaracdero and charity donations to Delphi third-party vendors?
